Karen was raised in a Christian home by loving parents who taught her to appreciate music, education, and new adventures. Her father was a teacher/principal and her mother was dedicated to raising 6 children. Karen’s parents were committed to teaching their children to love and serve God, by example. She remembers summer church camps where her parents were the guest musicians; church planting in Brampton; family devotions. Karen invited Jesus into her heart at the tender age of four, and at age fourteen discovered her love of teaching through leading an after-school Bible Club. She believes God instilled in her a passion for teaching young children.
After high school Karen continued her education at Emmanuel Bible College, Trent University, and Tyndale University. She then met her husband Steve and together they went into full-time ministry for 17 years when he accepted a position as Pastor. Karen committed those years to staying home with their three children until the youngest was in grade 6. She then became the EA in the SK class at Faith Community Christian School. That passion for teaching was again ignited. God opened the door for her to plan and teach the first JK class there for 5 years. Urgent family needs took Karen and Steve to Orillia to help care for her father, but God brought them back to London 7 years later. After 4 years at Compassion Canada, she now looks forward to serving the youngest students at LCA as the JK teacher. Karen believes life is a journey and God orders our steps. Two great joys in Karen's life are her twin grandsons. She loves to spend time with her family. If she has any extra time, she likes to kayak, read, or make jewellery
